Chief Brian James

Brian James has been promoted to serve as Greensboro’s Police Chief. He grew up in Greensboro near Phillips Avenue. He assumed his duties as police chief on February 1.

He joined GPD on February 16, 1996, serving in various roles with the department, including Police Neighborhood Resource Center, Criminal Investigations Division, Training Division, Resource Management Division, and currently serves as the Bureau Commander of the Patrol Division.

Chief James is also involved in numerous community engagement roles, such as chair of United Way’s African American Leadership cabinet, board chair of the Malachi House and vice chair of Guilford Child Development.

Latoya Harris

Latoya Harris recently joined the Communications & Marketing Department as a Communications Specialist for Human Resources. 

Latoya has a wealth of communications experience with the City of Greensboro as she spent the last few years in the Water Resources Department as the Public Education Coordinator and previously worked in Human Resources as an Organizational Development Specialist.

In her new role, Latoya will support Human Resources on all newsletters, programs, outreach, and new employee orientation just to name a few.
